Red Run Inn at McComas Beach

The name Red Run appears in the lake’s geography as well as its hospitality history. One documented gathering place was the Red Run Inn, near the dam on Mayhew Inn Road in the area called McComas Beach.

The Deep Creek centennial history describes a barn that served as a boys’ camp before becoming a restaurant. Around 1952, Clarence “Doc” Savage and Margaret “Marie” Savage ran the restaurant.

This is another example of how existing buildings were adapted as lake recreation grew. The available account establishes the location and the Savages’ association, but does not supply a complete operating history. Here, Red Run Inn is a researched possibility for the sandwich’s namesake, not a confirmed attribution.
